Version 3.00 for Windows Shipping since June

The current release of Inter-Est 3.00 is Release 5. This version is written for Windows 95 and Windows NT. It can also be used with Windows 3.1x if you use Win32s which we will furnish.

We’ve had the normal growing pains with Version 3.00, but we believe the current release is quite stable.

Recent changes or additions to Ver. 3.00.

Ver. 3.00 now supports three document types: Case Documents (.et3), Interest Table Documents (.it4) and Prepare Documents (.pre). The new document type, prepare documents, gives Ver. 3.00 some of the capabilities of our RAR program. Now Ver. 3.00 can compute the first limitation of the TPT, supports Worksheet TG, and has supports several features that help prepare your data for use with our normal case documents or to prepare your data for entry into a Form 706.

Corrected output for restricted interest where §6166 was elected.

Dialog Tips added to help new users learn how to use Inter-Est.

The computation of the limit to SDTC did not take into consideration the final state payment. This has been corrected.

Made Inter-Est look in more directories for the default interest table "Federal.it4".

Included initial setting to allow new case files to be created with a state option already selected.

A Delete File option added to File menu.

If you place an amount in the tax or interest payment for the last period a balance line will be shown. If you elect the ‘C’ method of allocation of tax payment for the last period where there is a §6166 election, no printout of estimated next payment will be inserted.

In state interest computation, you can now designate a fixed dollar amount as the amount which draws the special 4% interest rate.

Computation of marital bequests and charitable bequests modified so they cannot be less than 0.00.

Calculator and Calendar added to the Options menu.

An error in GST tax Part 3 was corrected where Complex was elected.

Added feature where you can double-click on the output screen and be taken to the correct dialog box to change an item.

Note: Ver. 3.00 uses a different format for its files than Ver. 2.00. This applies to both case files and interest table files. This can make it awkward for you when you convert old files. They have to be re-entered.

Changes which affected both Inter-Est 2.00 and Inter-Est 3.00

Changes whiche were made to both Ver. 2.00 and Ver. 3.00 were:

Changed the convergence routine to test for state tax computation where the federal tax doesn’t move.

Changed the way the Indiana Computation applied the exemption. Also added support for a 5% discount for early payment

Computation of the New York pickup tax was modified to limit the pickup tax where there is a federal credit for tax on prior transfers and the 2nd limitation controls. Support for the New York Principal Residence Deduction has been added.

Computation of GST tax which qualifies for §6166 election has been adjusted to restrict it to the amount of the GST tax.

Louisiana computation adjusted — Error in tax table for Class C. Interrelated interest no longer used to compute Louisiana taxable.

Nebraska computation adjusted — Credit for exemption given twice.

Print Problem with Version 3.00

Some users have had a problem printing the computation output. At times, such as when trying to print in duplex mode, Inter-Est lost track of the right margin and all output was printed on the left margin. We had not been able to fix this problem and assumed that it was a problem with the Windows print driver. We have now made a change to the program which might fix this problem.

Anyone with this printing problem can now receive a free update that might solve your problem. Call us if you have been have this problem.

Federal Interest Rate Change

Remember to keep your interest tables current. The federal rate on deficiencies increased from 9% to 8% starting April 1, 1996 and then went back up to 9% as of July 1, 1996. The rates ramained unchanged on October 1, 1996. Change your interest tables to reflect these changes.

The federal interest rates for refunds are one percent below the rates on deficiencies.

Changes to Inter-Est 2.00 in the first half of 1996

The current release of Inter-Est 2.00 is Release 44. We are still shipping Inter-Est 2.00 with both the standard version and the protected mode version of Inter-Est .

No major changes were made to Inter-Est during the first half of 1996, but several small changes were made. The following is a list of most of the changes:

Fixed dollar adjustments to the federal marital deduction and the federal charitable deduction are now supported in the New York computation.

Error in the computation of the SDTC for the purpose of §2044 recomputation was corrected. This error was introduced in Release 35.
